The current corona pandemic forces many startups and small businesses to face plummeting customer demand, deal with increasing uncertainty about their future, and often completely re-adjust marketing and sales activities. At the same time, social distancing and remote working are accelerating digital transformation, increasing media consumption, boosting the demand for specific existing solutions and even opening up new market niches. 

During these uncertain times, what should be your top communication priorities and goal? Should you freeze your planned campaigns or make use of the growing demand for digital products and services? Can you really do anything to reduce customer churn? What are the rules for effective brand positioning mids everything that's happening around? And although corona may seem to be a growth hacking opportunity for many, why is it important to respond in an ethical and responsible way?

The Panel

To bring multiple perspectives to the table, we’ve invited a group of well-known professionals from marketing, communication, and media. Each of them has not only long-lasting experience mentoring startups but also knows first-hand the challenges of being an entrepreneur. 


  • Hristo Hristov

    Hristo is a serial entrepreneur, an investor and a mentor in several startup companies. In 2005, he founded a digital news site Dariknews, which later acquired Netinfo and thus created the biggest digital media company in Bulgaria. As CEO of Netinfo the company grew threefold by entering into new verticals and expanding the content offering. Hristo's latest endeavors include two news media outlets - Dnews.bg for general news and Dsport.bg focusing on sports commentary as well as WhitePress.bg, a content marketing & SEO platform. Hristo’s was as a journalist at BBC London and Darik Radio Sofia and holds a Law degree from Sofia University. 

    As CEO of HR Capital, a private equity company, he focuses on marketplaces, commerce digital, and fintech businesses. 
 
  • Georgi Malchev

    Georgi has over 20 years of experience in marketing, communications and business development. Georgi is Managing Partner of the leading agency for digital marketing in Bulgaria Xplora, which services more than 80 active clients in Bulgaria and abroad - FMCG, B2C, B2B, B2B2C. The agency provides additionally a platform for online video courses and for offline digital marketing training and consulting called xplora.academy. Further, he brings years of experience in corporate finance and management consulting working with D and C level leaders of large holding companies and corporations. 

    Georgi is an active startup mentor and also a long-year a member of the Board of IAB Bulgaria. At New Bulgarian University, he teaches classes in marketing, advertising and communications to masters and bachelors. Georgi graduated magna cum laude from the American University in Bulgaria.


  • Bernhard Holzer

    Bernhard is a public relations professional for more than a century and one of the most well-known communications experts in the Austrian and German Startup scene. He was part of the founding team of zoomsquare, which became Austria's Startup of the Year 2013. Later on, Bernhard was responsible for the communications at Germany's biggest Startup-factory Rocket Internet in Berlin. After returning to Austria, he set up his own agency for startup PR and storytelling woodspr focusing on communications in the DACH-region and international tech media. Bernhard brings additionally years of experience as a business journalist at knowledgable media outlets in DACH as well as the Head of Communications at the football club Austria Vienna.

    His current roles include public relations for Klarna, writing as a freelance journalist and lecturing at WU Wien and FH Wien. Further, he is responsible for the communications of the Austrian Startups, the German Startups Association, Talent Garden Austria and Germany's biggest startup conference Bits & Bretzels. The better part of the year, Bernhard travels all over the world as a digital nomad while running his business successfully working remotely...
