PDM Open to Love Pre-Symposium: Manifesting Healthy Relationships through Art Making with Jocelyn Thomas

to
Focal Questions for this session:
“What am I wanting in my current dating and/or relating experiences that I do not currently have.” AND “What is the self-work that I need to do to get what I want and need from dating and relating.”

Manifestation is a process that can be learned. Often, we think of manifestation work as creating mantras and affirmations. That form of manifestation is powerful. However, there are powerful ways of manifesting our wants and needs that do not need to be translated to and through written language.

Manifestation Artmaking is a process. It has four basic steps:
  1. Activating and connecting to our unconscious and/or metaphysical self.
  2.  Portraying our unconscious echoes of wants/needs through art.
  3. Analyzing the results of our intuitive process.
  4. Creating tangible meaning from the entire experience

In this class, you will have the opportunity to be taken through the entire process with the outcome being two different art objects to take with you. The first art object will be a 2-dimensional piece (either sketching, watercolors, or collage.) The second piece you will create to your specifications through a 3-dimensional piece is encouraged.

A general breakdown of the course is as follows.
Hour 1: LWBAT practice three activation techniques: invocation, guided meditation, and mindful journaling.
Hour 2: LWBAT craft a 2D art object that answers the question “What am I wanting in my current dating and/or relating experiences that I do not currently have.”
Hour 3: LWBAT craft a self-directed art object that answers the question “What is the self-work that I need to do to get what I want and need from dating and relating.”

Participants are asked to bring:
  • Comfortable clothes (if you intend to paint as part of your process then dress accordingly.
  • Comfortable seating and table/floor space for art-making. (a significant part of your in-session time will be away from the keyboard)
  • Blank white paper (2-3 sheets)
  • Writing utensil (pen or pencil)
  • Visual art materials (crayons, color pencils, watercolors, etc)
  • OPTIONAL: magazines, scissors, glue  (for collage making)
  • OPTIONAL: materials for a three-dimensional art object (click here OR here for suggestions)

NOTE: This is an *active* participation class. ALL participants should be able to focus solely on the art-making process and collective empowerment and processing strategies.
