There's joy to be found in modernizing software — refactoring, fixing bugs, paying down technical debt, optimizing for performance, patching security vulnerabilities, upgrading dependencies, and building out test suites, just to name a few.

If you love making existing code better, you're a vital part of our digital ecosystem. Legacy code isn't something that should be tossed aside with disdain. Legacy systems are often mission-critical underpinnings of our society and the people who maintain them are unsung heroes.

At MenderCon, we want to celebrate the software maintainers of the world and create a community where we can all learn from each other. Building on the organic community that's emerged from the podcast Legacy Code Rocks! this virtual event is a chance for menders all over the world to come together and talk about what makes improving software interesting and fun.

The day will kick off with an inspiring keynote from M. Scott Ford. As a founder of Legacy Code Rocks! and the Chief Code Whisperer at Corgibytes, Scott has led the mender movement in the software community and will share why software maintenance brings him so much joy.

Then, we'll hear from you! If you have an idea for a topic, share it with the community at our pitch session. We'll discuss and then break out into groups for deeper dives and discussions on all things software maintenance. If you've ever attended an unconference or an open space, then you'll feel right at home.

There will also be plenty of opportunities to swap stories and meet new people. Throughout the event, you can meet fellow menders for some virtual networking or stop by our sponsor booths in our virtual expo. (Interested in sponsoring? Hit us up at sales at corgibytes dot com for details and opportunities.)

Let's change the way the world thinks of legacy code. Let's take the shame out of software maintenance. And let's work together to strengthen the systems we rely on every day. We hope you'll join the movement at this year's MenderCon.
